God In Our Pain

To Be Near Him is To Be Like Him

Acts 4:13 (NKJV)
13  Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

Glimpses of Glory

This past Sunday night I shared with our church family a time in my life when I believe God gave me a glimpse of heaven one night in a dream.  It came at a time in my life when I was making a lot of choices; some good and some bad, but God wanted to get my attention.  I believe God gives us glimpses of His glory and glory to come each and every day.  Many people and Christians included long to have some "major revelation" about spiritual things.  Hundreds of millions of dollars are spent each and every year to buy the latest book about other peoples "revelations" of heaven.  The reality is that God demonstrates to us each day His glory.  Creation itself shows His creative power, the heavens declare His vastness and friends and family demonstrate His love and compassion.  Instead of reading about someone else's experience or waiting for God to show you something in a dream, just look around.  Take a moment and see that God gives us glimpses of His glory each day, we just need to stop and look for them. - Pastor Shawn

God In Our Pain

If there is one thing that our nation has had to deal with this week it is pain.  On Monday afternoon a day to reward and celebrate determination and perseverance quickly became a day of horror and loss.  In split seconds a bomb not only destroyed lives, but families in its wake.  When I first heard about the attack it seemed so reminiscent of September 11th 2001.  Suddenly a certain level of anxiety and fear began to grip my heart.  As the television and commentators surveyed the damage all you could see was people living their worst nightmare.  I turned to God's Word and was reminded of these words..."Psalm 46:1-2  God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea..."  As people, we have a tendency to place our hope on things that are only temporary.  God promises us that He is with us in the depths of our despair and even when our mountain top experiences come crashing to the ground, He is there.  No matter whether its bombs, storms or fire, God is in the midst of them to provide His love and grace to us.  Often in times like this we blame God, but instead we should run to Him because He gives the refuge and protection that will sustain us today and will deliver us forever in eternity.    Pastor Shawn
